Sustainability (ESG)
Our sustainability program is at the core of our purpose and is embedded throughout our strategy. We strive to create positive economic, environmental, and social impact within planetary boundaries. There are two ways we can achieve this with our business activities – as a pioneer in the sector and as an enabler and exemplar.
Sustainability (ESG)
SAP as an Exemplar
The integration of economic, environmental and social performance to drive better business decisions has been a guiding principle for us for many years. We are a thought leader in integrated reporting. As part of our holistic management approach, we have established clear goals for material non-financial indicators.

SAP as an Enabler
With a significant number of business transactions worldwide touching an SAP system, even a small change in customers’ core processes can have a meaningful positive impact. For example, with our Sustainability business solutions and services, we are helping customers account for their carbon emissions, which is the first step in reducing emissions.
You can see more examples of how technology from SAP has a positive impact on our UN Sustainable Development Goals Web book.

Report Data Hub
Making our data easily accessible and transparent to our diverse stakeholder groups is very important to us.
With the SAP Integrated Report we provide a central location for all your data needs. Browse different performance areas and download a summary of our reported data in XLS format.
Environment
We are committed to doing our part in reducing our negative environmental impact.
In 2023, SAP achieved net carbon neutrality in our own operations. We are now focused on achieving net zero along the entire value chain by 2030.
Our facilities and data centers are already carbon neutral.
We have taken innovative approaches to reduce carbon footprint related to travel. This includes internal carbon pricing on business flights, expansion of virtual meeting technology, and moving to an emission-free car fleet.
We run environmental and energy management systems (EMS) at 45+ locations worldwide.
Governance
Chair succession: Pekka Ala-Pietilä was elected as chair of the Supervisory Board on May 15, 2024.
We have revised the executive compensation system, which was approved by shareholders in May 2023, aligns pay with performance, increases shareholding ownership, and introducing ESG KPIs into the long-term incentive. The new system took effect January 1st, 2024.
We have published a detailed Profile of Skills and Expertise and Qualification Matrix for the Supervisory Board.
Social
We established the first-of-its-kind Artificial Intelligence Ethics Board.
As of the end of 2023, women make up over 35% of the workforce.
We continue to support and foster a diverse workplace by continually increasing the percentage of women in management and supporting programs in the areas of: neurodiversity (Autism at Work), social justice, LGBT+.
We are committed to respecting human rights in our own operations and extended value chain. To put our commitment into action, we have developed due diligence processes to identify, prevent, and mitigate human rights risks. We also have published a Report on the Fulfillment of the Due Diligence Obligations (related to the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act).
